What are CD1A cells?
CD1a (Cluster of Differentiation 1a) is a human protein encoded by the CD1A gene. This gene encodes a member of the CD1 family of transmembrane glycoproteins, which are structurally related to the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) proteins and form heterodimers with beta-2-microglobulin.
What causes Langerhans?
The cause of this disease is unknown, although most data suggest that it is characterized by a growth of immature Langerhans cells that appear to have mutations of the BRAF gene in about half the cases. LCH is not caused by a known infection, is not contagious, nor is it believed to be inherited .
What is CD1a a marker for?
CD1a is often used as marker for dendritic cells (DCs) in vitro and in vivo. The density of CD1a+ DCs within human tumours has been associated with survival.
Is Langerhans cell histiocytosis a type of lymphoma?
In a small subset of patients, LCH has been identified as an incidental finding in biopsy specimens involved by lymphoma. Classical Hodgkin lymphoma is the most common associated lymphoma,23–26 whereas only sporadic cases of other types of non-Hodgkin lymphoma associated with LCH are reported in the literature.
Is LCH an autoimmune disease?
Langerhans cell histiocytosis historically was thought of as a cancer-like condition, but more recently researchers have begun to consider it an autoimmune phenomenon in which immune cells begin to overproduce and attack the body instead of fighting infection.
Is CD1a involved in inflammatory skin disease?
CD1a on Langerhans cells controls inflammatory skin disease CD1a is a lipid-presenting molecule that is abundantly expressed on Langerhans cells. However, the in vivo role of CD1a has remained unclear, principally because CD1a is lacking in mice.
Is CD1a a plant-derived lipid?
CD1a is a lipid-presenting molecule that is abundantly expressed on Langerhans cells. However, the in vivo role of CD1a has remained unclear, principally because CD1a is lacking in mice. Through the use of mice with transgenic expression of CD1a, we found that the plant-derived lipid urushiol trigge …
Is there an in vivo role of CD1a in animal cells?
However, the in vivo role of CD1a has remained unclear, principally because CD1a is lacking in mice. Through the use of mice with transgenic expression of CD1a, we found that the plant-derived lipid urushiol trigge …
