How do you qualify for national speech and debate?
Students must join an NSDA member school and agree to our Code of Honor in order to be eligible for membership as an individual. A school is an accredited, diploma-granting public or private entity recognized by the state.
How do you get on the US debate team?
To be eligible for the USA Debate Team, students must be members of the National Speech & Debate Association and complete a rigorous application process.
What is Central Florida debate initiative?
The Central Florida Debate Initiative first implemented programs in Central Florida high schools in the 2013-2014 school year. Since then, the organization has evolved into the Florida Debate Initiative in order to serve as an advocate for the development and support for speech and debate programs throughout the state.

How can I earn NSDA points?
Members earn merit points through competition, service, and leadership activities. Whether they’re debating in the classroom, volunteering, speaking at a rally, or acting on stage, students use what they learn in speech and debate every day.
What do debate teams do?
Teams are advised of the topic and take positions (pro and con). Teams discuss their topics and come up with statements expressing their position. Teams deliver their statements and offer the main points. Teams discuss the opposition’s argument and come up with rebuttals.
